Contest Levels
Amateur status is any strongman that does not currently have a recognized Pro Card by ASC (American Strongman Corp) or any competitor not qualified or ranked as one of the top professional competitors. The NAS National Heavyweight and Lightweight Champion will receive a Pro Card. (He must turn pro or sit out of competition for one year). All pro 105k athletes are eligible to compete as a heavyweight amateur only in any sanctioned NAS contest. They must have a current NAS inc. card. Expense money can be awarded up to $750.00 ($1000.00 in Platinum Plus Contest) per competitor (this is up to each promoter). Supplement packages and gifts are separate and can be awarded in any contest and for any value. Promoters of any NAS sanctioned contest are not eligible to compete in his or her own contest.
Local Contest or "Special Event Contest", demo's, etc. for beginning promoters to gain experience at promoting. Must work with State's NAS Chairman, if there is one in that state. Experienced promoters and state chairman can run this type of contest to experiment with new ideas or for a second show other than the State Championship. One spot to the overall winner of each division or weight class that is offered at the contest will receive an invitation to the NASM Championships. A Silver Level Contest has no minimum number or competitors required. Expense money (up to $750.00 per competitor) or supplement packages can be awarded.
State Championships or Regional Meets promoted and held by State Chairman or a qualified promoter that has been approved by the State chair and NAS president. Top two athletes in each weight class or division that is offered at the contest will receive an invitation to the NASM championships. A Gold Level Contest should have a minimum of 20 competitors (only exception is state championships). Expense money (up to $750.00 per competitor) or supplements can be awarded.
Can be a state championship or equal quality. Home Office and State Chair person has to agree on approval of this level of contest. To be considered to be an exceptionally ran contest, and with good promoter history. A Platinum Level Contest should have a minimum of 30 competitors. The top three winners in each weight class or division that is offered at the contest will also be invited to the NASM contest. Expense money (up to $750.00 per competitor) or supplements can be awarded.
This contest must have the approval of the NAS/ASC Home Office. Only Promoters with a proven history of hosting quality contests may host a Platinum Plus contest. There will be a maximum of 6 Platinum Plus Contest in the year 2007-2008 seasons with a 231 (105 kilo) and an open (hw-above 231) class. The Platinum Plus contest winner will earn his Pro card (A total of four 105 kilo and four open in the 2007-2008 season). These competitors can choose to stay an amateur or choose to become a pro. Once a heavyweight or lightweight competitor wins more than one Platinum Plus Level show in a year, he may be persuaded to compete at the professional level by his state chair and/or NAS Executive Officers. Once you compete as a pro, you must remain a professional competitor. If you earn your pro status as a lightweight or a heavyweight, and you later desire to compete as one of the other, you must qualify at a Platinum Plus contest only in that division in order to seek a dual pro-card. Only with a one-year layoff from pro competition can a competitor go back to his/her amateur status. The promoters of Platinum Plus shows are based on the quality of the promoter’s past competitions, equipment, weights, etc. The decision of NAS Home Office and ASC reps, along with the agreement of the State Chair. The top four finishers will qualify to compete at the NASMC. If the winner chooses to turn professional, then the second through fifth place finishers will qualify for NASMC. The weights and equipment used in a Platinum Plus Contest are suggested to be equal to the weights used in a pro-level contest. A Contest can be both, a State Championship and a Platinum Plus Level Contest. Expense money (up to $1000.00 per competitor) and/or supplement packages may be awarded, but are not required.
